How We Earn Money
The Stairlift Advisor is a free resource for consumers. We earn revenue through referral fees (also known as affiliate commissions). Here's exactly how it works:
- You visit our site and read our reviews, guides, and comparisons — all free.
- If you choose to request quotes through our site (via the "Get Quotes" forms), we share your details with a vetted stairlift installer.
- If that installer arranges a home survey or completes a sale, we may receive a referral fee from them.
You never pay more because of our referral. The price you're quoted is the same whether you came through our site or found the installer directly. Our referral fee comes from the installer's marketing budget, not from your pocket.
What This Means for Our Content
We earn a referral fee when you request quotes through our site. This does not affect our reviews — we score every brand using the same transparent methodology, and recommend based on genuine assessment.
To put this concretely:
- Our Editor's Choice (Stannah, 8.4/10) is based on genuine editorial assessment of reliability and aftercare — not on which brand pays us the most
- We report Handicare's lower Trustpilot score (4.3/5) honestly, even though doing so could theoretically reduce leads for that brand
- We cover Which? concerns about industry sales practices, even though this makes the entire industry (including our partners) look bad
- If Acorn's Trustpilot score (4.8/5) is the highest in the industry, we say so — even if Acorn isn't our primary commercial partner
Editorial Independence
No stairlift manufacturer, installer, or advertising partner has any editorial input into our:
- Review scores
- Brand recommendations
- Content topics or editorial direction
- Pricing data or fact-checking
Our editorial team makes all content decisions independently. Commercial relationships are managed separately from editorial work.
What We Don't Do
- We don't sell your personal data to third parties
- We don't share your details with multiple companies without your knowledge
- We don't inflate scores for brands that pay us more
- We don't suppress negative information about commercial partners
- We don't publish fabricated reviews or testimonials
- We don't claim to have verified data that we haven't actually verified
Why We Think This Model Works
The stairlift industry has a transparency problem. Prices aren't published online. Most "comparison" sites are lead generation businesses with no editorial standards. Consumers walk into home surveys uninformed, which benefits the seller, not the buyer.
Our model aligns our interests with yours: the better our content helps you make informed decisions, the more you trust our recommendations, and the more likely you are to request quotes through us. If our content was dishonest or unhelpful, you wouldn't use our service.
We believe this is a more honest model than advertising-funded content (where the advertiser's interests often conflict with the reader's) or purely commercial lead generation (where there's no editorial content at all).
